A Word From Editor
We've all been impressed recently by the inspirational performances of the athletes at the Olympics and Paralympics. One gold medal winner I saw said that the secret to her success was to dream, to believe and then to achieve. Many of the athletes talked of how they used mental rehearsal and visualisation in their training. Students can use these same principles while they are learning to type - see our story in this issue on Mental Rehearsal Cards. We also have a story on how students in special ed classes are enjoying success using TYPEQUICK FOR STUDENTS. More than 1300 schools in Australia are using TYPEQUICK. If you have a story on how your school is experiencing great results with Typequick, then please contact me as we would love to publish your story.

Typequick for Students in Action
Wulguru Primary School is one of our schools currently using TYPEQUICK FOR STUDENTS. Their Year 4 and 5 students are using the program 2-3 times a week with the aim of getting their keyboard proficiency up to speed before they enter their final year of primary school.

The school is experiencing notable success with the program according to David Surtees, the school's IT co-ordinator. He and the other teachers have noticed that the children are using their ten-finger touch-typing skills instead of hunting and pecking when they are using the computers in other classes. "The students like the multimedia style of the program because it is aimed at kids and they enjoy the challenges they get at each level of the adventure".

Special Ed Success

Helen Commerford from Heatherwood School is using TYPEQUICK FOR STUDENTS on a daily basis with secondary age students with mild intellectual disabilities. This is an elective program and because of its high motivation content, students have been keen to attend daily for the whole year.
Helen said that the students love using the program because of the success that it gives them. They enjoy the positive feedback and humour of the characters. It is age appropriate for our secondary students. Not only are keyboard skills being learned, but students are also totally focused and improving their concentration skills.

Sally Mason from St Felix Primary School is also having similar success with the program to teach a class of special ed/language delayed children. She said that the kids fight to use TYPEQUICK and love the characters and graphics. They also really relate to Kewala and the language that he uses.

Sally said that as a teacher, she really likes to get a print out of the students' progress and to see their skill building up. She has found interspersing word processing practice during the TYPEQUICK course has helped cross over the skill to basic word processing. Sally said, "I think it's a fantastic program".

Typequick Skill Evaluator

The Skill Evaluator is a quick, accurate and convenient method of assessing the keyboard skills of your students. It's an invaluable time-saving tool and is fully automated and designed to monitor every keystroke, stop the test after the set time duration and accurately score the input.

While the TYPEQUICK program produces speed and accuracy reports, they're not done under test conditions. One keyboarding teacher we know, uses the program as an advanced tool for building speed and accuracy. For information on school pricing, please contact Typequick.
